+ EARLY CHILDHOOD LEAD TEACHER
The ideal candidate will have a love and knowledge educating children ages 3 to 6 in a mixed group learning community. Additionally, the candidate will: embrace the mission of the school; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; function very effectively as a member of a collaborative teaching team; engage enthusiastically with families and other members of the school community; and embrace the opportunities and challenges of teaching in an innovative, start-up school. Organization, reliability, flexibility, and compassionate leadership are key to the role.
Develop parent education classes. • Implement policies and procedures. • Design and set up the classroom space. • Inform the owner of the necessary supplies and materials needed. • Work with owner to promote the school. • Work toward growing and expanding the scope of the school’s offerings.
Teaching & Evaluating
Serve as Lead Teacher for the Early Childhood community. • Generate weekly lesson plans that focus on students’ interests. • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness and success of the school’s classes • Assure compliance with all relevant governmental rules and regulations.
This position reports to the Owner. • Provide necessary reports to the Owner as it pertains to the classrooms and needed materials, supplies, and staff.
Interview, train, direct, and supervise, Interns, or Volunteers as needed to ensure that the values and vision of the school and Dr. Montessori are being implemented and practiced • This position is part of a two-member teaching team. In addition to your own classroom, this position will also work with the Lead Toddler teacher and toddler assistant as supervising
educator of both classrooms building a strong team, further supporting the values and ideals of SMM and Dr. Maria Montessori. • Participate in staff meetings and special events to ensure connection with all staff and families.
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Environmental Education. (Master’s preferred) Accreditation from a recognized Montessori program.
• Experience teaching children ages three to six for 2 or more years at an accredited Montessori school. • Strong planning, organizing, and management skills. • Experience supervising staff and volunteers. • Demonstrated verbal and written skills.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for preschool children in both indoor and outdoor settings. • Able to identify local natural hazards such as poison ivy, wasps, fire ants, dangerous snakes, etc. • Positive and proactive communication and interpersonal skills.
• Successful candidates will need to pass a background check and remain current on First Aid/CPR certifications.
